Shoulder Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that uses a pencil-sized instrument to allow your surgeon to transmit images from inside your shoulder onto a screen. Arthroscopy can be used both to diagnose a joint problem and to remove or repair damaged tissue.

Common treatments with shoulder arthroscopy include:
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Repair to torn or damaged cartilage rings and ligaments
  • Repair to damaged biceps tendons
  • Removal of bone spurs around the rotator cuff
In the case of rotator cuff tears, performing arthroscopy to repair the damage rather than using a traditional open rotator cuff repair results in less damage to the tissue surrounding the shoulder and rotator cuff, which can mean a faster recovery as well as a smaller scar.
