The Orthopaedic Center of the Carolinas offers a wide range of general orthopaedic
services, including care of strains, sprains and fractures, as well as non-operative
arthritis treatment. If you experience an orthopaedic-related injury, Orthopaedic
Center of the Carolinas is prepared to treat it with expert care and get you back
to the activities you enjoy.
Non-Invasive Arthritis TreatmentMany people consult orthopedists due to pain caused by arthritis. Arthritis is
caused by wear and tear to the joints (particularly knees and hips) that causes
the cartilage cushion between bones in the joint to break down. This can trigger
pain, stiffness and decreased mobility.
If you suffer from arthritis, there are several non-operative treatments available
through the Orthopaedic Center of the Carolinas, including counseling, medication
and injections.
Mild cases of arthritis can be treated by adding exercise to your daily routine,
losing weight to ease the workload of your joints, applying hot and cold pressure
to the painful area, and using devices such as braces to help support your joints.
After an office visit, your physician also may prescribe medications for pain
relief, including anti-inflammatory medications, vitamin supplements and glucosamine.
Remember, even when using over-the-counter medication you must follow the directions
carefully. Always let your doctor know about any over-the-counter medications
and supplements you are taking during your appointment.
Another way to relive arthritis pain is through injections of natural lubricants
into the joint. These effects of these medications can last for weeks or months.
However, if arthritis pain persists after these treatments, arthroscopy or joint
replacement surgery may be needed.
Make an appointment! If you are experiencing pain due to arthritis and the over-the-counter medications
are not working as well as they used to, make an appointment with Dr. DeVault
